GLOBAL FINANCIAL TURMOIL: EXAMINING ITS RISKS AND RIPPLE EFFECT ON FINANCIAL SYSTEMS
(AAB College, 2025-07-16) Haliti Baruti, Blerta; Nallbani Berisha, Shqiponja; Gashi, Rrezarta
Over the past two decades, the global economic landscape has faced substantial turmoil, marked by major events such as the 2007 financial crisis and the ongoing challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. This paper aims to theoretically clarify the consequences of the global financial crisis on the developing economy of Kosovo, with a particular focus on its financial system, and to propose potential future reforms in this sector. Using a comparative analysis of different time periods, specifically examining the financial crisis from 2008 to 2023 in Kosovo, the study reveals that the global economic crisis has significantly impacted Kosovo’s economy. This is evident in the pronounced fluctuations in key macroeconomic indicators, including gross domestic product (GDP), trade balance, consumer price index (CPI), unemployment rates, remittances, and foreign direct investment (FDI) during this period. The findings suggest that two fundamental factors — the low level of economic integration and the government’s shift in priorities towards capital investments — have mitigated the crisis’s impact on Kosovo. The paper also highlights the ongoing challenges of inflation and emphasizes the need for strategies to ensure resilience and sustainable economic prosperity in the future.

THE EFFECT OF CREDIT RISK ON THE FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF COMMERCIAL BANKS IN BALKAN COUNTRIES
(AAB College, 2025-07-16) Hoti Arifaj, Arta; Haliti Baruti, Blerta
This study aims to examine the effect of credit risk on the profitability of financial institutions. For research, we have collected secondary data from the relevant institutions of the Western Balkan states such as Kosovo, Albania, North Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. In total, there are 26 commercial banks from 2010 to 2022 that serve in these countries. We consider information from three panels that categorize state-owned banks, private banks, or multinational banks according to their ownership structure. Return on assets (ROA) or return on equity (ROE) were used as surrogates for financial performance measures, while the percentage of bad loans was used to measure credit risk (Furhmann, 2022). Where the research objective was to explore the relationship between credit risk and financial performance in commercial banks operating in the Balkan countries, to understand the factors that affect credit risk, and to suggest measures to increase the financial performance of banks in the region (Gbadamosi & Olaleke, 2019). From the evaluation results, we can see that both ROA and ROE are inversely related to credit risk (Al-Malkawi, 2019). The profitability of commercial banks in the Balkan countries from 2010 to 2022 has been shown to be related to credit risk management. As a result, financial institutions should pay more attention to credit risk management, especially bad debt prevention and investigation. Therefore, managers should pay more attention to the latest credit risk management strategies.

The Impact of Covid 19 Lockdowns on Western Balkan's Economic
(AAB College, 2025-07-16) Haliti Baruti, Blerta
Just a few years and a few months ago no one had heard of the coronavirus. Today this disease has profoundly changed the lives of millions of people. Thus, policy makers have been thinking about finding the answer to the economic crisis it has caused. What impact COVID-19 will have on the economy is immediately understood to be negative, but the extent of the damage will depend on the speed with which the authorities have undertaken to improve it and how willing governments have been to establish a kind of economic support for the immediate impact during the epidemic and the consequences it has caused. March 2020 Covid-19 immediate lockdowns played a crucial role in controlling the fast rise in cases. Countries that had failed to implement an immediate lockdown oversaw the immediate rise in cases, with worst-affected countries including Italy, the United States, UK, and Spain. Former US President Donald Trump insisted that the pandemic would not have been lethal if the countries engaged in immediate lockdown. Lockdown measures also bore positive results in European countries and finally Western Balkan. However, despite the low cases in Balkan, countries that implemented immediate lockdowns, such as Greece, Romania, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia, saw a rise in unemployment. Unemployment rose from 4.8% to 46%, illustrating the negative impact of the pandemic towards socio-economic welfare, with primarily the disruption of SMEs and MNEs being a significant concern.

THE IMPACT OF THE INSURANCE MARKET ON ECONOMIC GROWTH: EVIDENCE FROM DEVELOPING COUNTRIES
(AAB College, 2025-07-16) Haliti Baruti, Blerta
The purpose of this study is to understand the development and role of the insurance industry in the development of the economic and financial systems in developing countries with a special emphasis on Kosovo. It is the continuation of the preliminary works where for the empirical analysis, secondary data from the relevant institution and the survey were conducted. The survey was conducted with financial managers from all insurance companies in Kosovo. The analysis shows that the insurance industry has an important role in the development of financial markets and therefore has a positive impact on the development of countries. Also, the analysis of the case of the Balkan countries shows that the factors related to the macroeconomic and financial sectors are important drivers for the future development of the insurance industry. It is worth asking: What role does insurance play in economic development? Where, according to the studies by Arena (2008) and Haiss and Sümegi (2008), and also from this research there is ample evidence that insurance contributes significantly to economic development by improving the investment climate and promoting a range of activities. The analysis in Kosovo shows that the insurance market gross written premiums have a positive linkage with the GDP growth of Kosovo. Even though the impact is small, it can increase with the potential growth of the insurance sector in Kosovo.

UTILISING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN DIGITAL MARKETING STRATEGY: OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES FOR MARKETERS
(AAB College, 2025-07-16) Mehmeti Bajrami, Shpresa; Haliti Baruti, Blerta; Hoti Arifaj, Arta
This study explores the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in digital marketing, focusing on its impact on marketing practices and the evolving roles of marketers. The research aims to provide insights for professionals and academics by examining how AIdriven content marketing strategies affect consumer behavior, specifically purchase intentions. It hypothesizes that these strategies positively influence purchase intentions through brand awareness, customer retention, and engagement. Using qualitative analysis, case studies, and partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), the study investigates the extent to which AI-driven marketing influences purchase intention. The results indicate that AI significantly transforms marketing operations, enhances consumer value, and drives the shift from traditional to digital marketing. PLS-SEM analysis shows that AI-driven content marketing substantially increases brand awareness, retention, and engagement, with its impact on purchase intentions being primarily indirect (Chintalapati & Pandey, 2022; Kumar et al., 2024). The study offers actionable recommendations for stakeholders to adapt to AI-driven marketing and emphasizes understanding indirect influences on purchase decisions.
