    SECURITY, PEACE, AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN A TROUBLED WORLD

    The ongoing financial crisis, exacerbated by Russian aggression in Ukraine, has triggered soaring inflation, higher living costs, and economic instability. This has prompted countries to adopt more assertive geopolitical and economic strategies to protect key industries and reduce dependence on external nations. The Western Balkans, with their underdeveloped economies, have been significantly impacted, leading governments to introduce stringent anti-inflationary measures. European administrations have played a crucial role in implementing sanctions and coordinating responses with international partners. Meanwhile, geopolitical tensions persist, particularly in the Balkans, where unresolved disputes between Kosovo and Serbia, as well as the rise of authoritarianism, challenge stability. Serbia has maintained close ties with Moscow, refusing to impose sanctions against Russia. At the same time, international justice faces significant hurdles, especially regarding accountability for war crimes. This conference aims to address the complex issues of security, justice, and economic sustainability in today’s troubled world.

    Information, Media and Truth in the Post-Truth and Artificial Intelligence Era

    Today’s audience has migrated online, where platforms have become central to politics, marketing, journalism, and even extremism. This shift allows citizens to engage directly with political actors and media, but it has also led to increased competition for attention and credibility. While everyone can now reach vast audiences, this has resulted in a "mediatization of everything," where rational claims and facts are often overshadowed by lies, beliefs, and populist rhetoric, undermining democracy. Social media, alongside alternative media, has diminished journalism’s monopoly on information, contributing to the rise of hyperpartisan content and mob censorship. In this "Facebook democracy," emotions and beliefs often take precedence over facts, further fueling political polarization. Meanwhile, artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly integrated into media and public relations, raising concerns about its ethical and social implications. In this context, global events, such as the Ukraine war, are amplified online, blurring the lines between local and global narratives.
