EMERGING TRENDS IN POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION: THE IMPACT OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES ON ACCESS, DELIVERY, AND CREDENTIALING

Abstract

The increasing integration of digital technologies is driving significant innovation in education entrepreneurship, offering new ways to enhance learning and teaching practices. This study investigates emerging trends within the educational technology (EdTech) sector, focusing on the role of artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, and personalized learning systems. These technologies are redefining educational delivery models, improving learning outcomes, and democratizing access to education on a global scale. The purpose of this research is to explore how EdTech startups are leveraging these technologies to disrupt traditional education systems and create scalable, flexible, and inclusive solutions for diverse learners. By using a mixed methods approach, this study analyzes case studies and quantitative data on market growth, investment patterns, and adoption rates in order to identify broader trends in this sector and to explore the ways in which information and communications technologies will continue re-shaping the higher education sector. Key findings indicate that at the global level, personalized learning platforms driven by the development of information and communication technologies, especially AI, which adapt content to individual student needs, are becoming essential in postsecondary education. Blockchain technologies are also gaining traction for issuing secure, verifiable digital credentials, addressing long-standing issues of fraud and inefficiency in traditional certification processes. However, the research highlights significant challenges for EdTech entrepreneurs, including scaling solutions across diverse education systems, navigating regulatory environments, and addressing digital divides that may hinder equitable access to technology-enhanced education.
