Abstract

This study examines the impact of the management of microfinance institutions on the economic and social well-being of citizens, with a particular focus on the Municipality of Kaçanik as a case study. Microfinance institutions play a key role in local economic development by providing accessible financial services to marginalized groups and individuals who lack access to traditional banking systems. Effective management is essential for ensuring financial sustainability, enhancing institutional credibility, and improving service quality. This research adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining interviews with managers and clients of microfinance institutions, questionnaires, and documentary analysis. The findings demonstrate that professional and client-oriented management significantly improves access to small loans and financial products, supporting small enterprises, individual businesses, and households in improving their economic conditions. Additionally, efficient management practices enhance transparency and communication, leading to higher levels of trust between clients and microfinance institutions. This increased trust contributes directly to citizens’ well-being by reducing poverty and promoting local economic development. The study also offers recommendations for improving managerial practices, including investment in professional staff training, the adoption of new technologies, and a stronger focus on community needs and characteristics. Overall, the findings highlight the importance of effective management as a key factor in advancing the economic and social well-being of citizens in the Municipality of Kaçanik and beyond.
